How to register for AP exams in India (May 2027)

Who can take AP exams in India

Authorised AP test centres in India accept outside students. You can register if you are one of these:

• Students enrolled in secondary school, whatever their board: CBSE, ICSE, IB, IGCSE or a state board, including students whose own school does not offer AP.
• Home-schooled students, students who study independently and students at a virtual school.
• Students below grade 9 who are ready for an AP exam.
• Recent secondary school graduates who need a specific AP exam for university admission.

For most subjects you do not need to take an AP course to sit the exam. The exceptions are AP Computer Science Principles, AP Seminar and AP Research, which need enrolment in the course and a portfolio submitted by 30 April 2027.

Step-by-step registration

1. 1Choose your subjects and check the 2027 schedule for clashesYou cannot take two exams scheduled at the same date and time. If two of your exams clash, take one in late testing (17 to 21 May 2027), but only if your centre offers it. You cannot take Calculus AB and Calculus BC in the same year; Precalculus with AB or BC is fine, and you can take any or all of the four physics exams. See the 2027 AP exam schedule.
2. 2Find a centre that offers your subjects and whose deadline you can meetEach centre decides which exams it offers and whether it runs late testing. Use the deadlines table and the city list below.
3. 3Read the centre's policy and contact its AP coordinatorRead the fee, payment, cancellation and refund rules before you pay. Write to the AP coordinator if your subjects or dates are unclear.
4. 4Create or check your College Board accountUse the same College Board account you used for the PSAT or SAT. Your legal first and last name must be exactly as on your passport. Do not create a second account. For name or date of birth corrections, contact AP Services (+1-212-713-8000 from outside the US and Canada).
5. 5Get the centre's join code for each exam and join in My APThe centre's AP coordinator gives you a six-character join code for each exam. Sign in to My AP (myap.collegeboard.org), choose Join a Course or Exam and enter one code per exam. Open My AP.
6. 6Pay the centre by its deadlinePay in the way the centre asks, by its own deadline, and email proof of payment if the centre asks for it.
7. 7Confirm everythingCheck that each exam shows in My AP, keep your receipts, and wait for the admission ticket from the centre (many centres say it comes by April 2027).

You can take different exams at different centres with the same College Board account, but you must not register for the same exam at two centres (Prometric's page).

Fees and refunds

College Board lists a fee of US$129 per exam for exams taken outside the US, but fees at authorised centres vary and centres may charge more to cover proctoring. College Board publishes no price in rupees: in India each authorised centre sets its own fee.

On 22 October 2026, regular-testing fees on centre pages ranged from ₹13,000 per subject (Kodaikanal International School and The Galaxy School) to ₹21,830 per subject (Amity International School, Pushp Vihar). Prometric Mumbai charges US$170 per exam. Late-testing exams and second windows cost more.

Refund rules vary and many centres give no refund at all. Read the centre's policy before you pay. Each centre's fee and late-testing fee are in the deadlines table below, and second windows are in the city-by-city list.

Centre deadlines and fees, earliest first

The centre's own deadline is the one that matters. "Late-testing exams" is the fee for exams taken in the late-testing week, 17 to 21 May 2027, not a late-registration fee. "Ask the centre" means the centre's page does not give it; contact the centre to confirm.

Second registration windows are not in this table: they are listed in each centre's entry in the city-by-city section.

Test centres city by city

College Board's India page lists 40 authorised centres and says centres missing from its list no longer run AP exams. Our AP test centres in India page has the same list by state. Maharashtra has four listed centres: three in Mumbai and Kalyani School in Pune. If your city has no centre, choose the nearest one that offers your subjects and whose deadline you can still meet.

Exam day rules and ID

• Bring your original, valid passport. Without one, only the original UIDAI Aadhaar letter (the whole sheet) or the PVC Aadhaar card with hologram is accepted.
• Photocopies and digital copies (including e-Aadhaar on a phone) are not accepted, and the photo must match you.
• Arrive early. Prometric asks for at least 30 minutes; check your own centre's reporting time.
• Know your College Board password. A password saved on the device will not work on exam day.
• Check which calculator you may use: AP calculator policy.

Digital and hybrid exams, and devices

• From 2027 all AP exams are digital and taken in the Bluebook app.
• Fully digital exams: you answer every question in Bluebook.
• Hybrid digital exams: you answer multiple-choice questions in Bluebook and handwrite free-response answers in a paper booklet. This applies to subjects such as maths, the sciences and economics.
• Most centres expect you to bring your own approved device with the latest version of Bluebook installed, plus a charger. Prometric asks for an external keyboard if you use a tablet.
• Practise in Bluebook before exam day so the tools and timer are familiar.

Accommodations

• Accommodations such as extra time are approved by College Board Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD).
• Your school's SSD coordinator can submit the request through SSD Online. If your school cannot, you can request accommodations yourself using College Board's PDF form.
• The deadline is 22 January 2027, and approval can take up to seven weeks, so start early.
• Tell your test centre's AP coordinator early, and bring your SSD decision letter on exam day.

Sending scores to universities

• Scores are released in early July 2027.
• You get one free score send each year. Choose the university by 20 June 2027 (11:59 PM US Eastern time).
• After that, each additional score report costs US$15.
• You can cancel a score for free (ask by 15 June 2027 to stop it reaching your free score send), or withhold a score from a college for US$10 per score per college.
• Each university sets its own AP credit and placement policy. Check yours before choosing subjects.

Common mistakes

• Your College Board name does not match your passport.
• Creating a second College Board account instead of using your PSAT or SAT account.
• Missing the centre's own deadline, which is usually earlier than College Board's mid-November date.
• Paying the centre but not joining the exam in My AP, or joining in My AP but not paying.
• Registering for two exams that clash on the schedule.
• Registering for Calculus AB and Calculus BC in the same year.
• Registering for the same exam at two centres.
• Arriving without an approved device with Bluebook installed.
• Bringing an Aadhaar photocopy or e-Aadhaar instead of the original.
• Forgetting to choose a university for the free score send by 20 June 2027.
