UCAT preparation in Pune

UCAT classes in Pune for UK medicine and dentistry

The UCAT is the admissions test used by UK medical and dental schools in the UCAT Consortium. It is a computer-based test of just under two hours with four timed subtests: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement. Anannt prepares Pune students one-to-one with subtest drills, timed mocks and a plan that fits around Class 11 and 12.

What is the UCAT?

The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) does not test school science. It measures how quickly and accurately a student reads, reasons with data, makes decisions and judges professional situations, all under very tight time limits.

For an Indian student, the UCAT usually sits alongside NEET plans, board exams and the UCAS application. Testing runs in the summer before the UCAS application, so the preparation window overlaps with the end of Class 11 or the start of Class 12 for most CBSE, ICSE and IB students.

Scores for Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning are each reported on a 300 to 900 scale, giving a total of 900 to 2700. Situational Judgement is reported as a band from 1 to 4, where Band 1 is the highest. There is no negative marking.

How the UCAT is structured

Each subtest has its own short instruction screen before the clock starts. These are the standard timings published by the UCAT Consortium.

UCAT standard test (just under 2 hours)
SubtestQuestionsTimeInstructionsScore reported
Verbal Reasoning4422 minutes1 minute 30 seconds300 to 900
Decision Making3537 minutes1 minute 30 seconds300 to 900
Quantitative Reasoning3626 minutes2 minutes300 to 900
Situational Judgement6926 minutes1 minute 30 secondsBand 1 to 4

A basic on-screen calculator is available in Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning. The UCAT has four subtests and no Abstract Reasoning subtest, so older practice books that include one are out of date.

For UCAT 2026, booking ran from 23 June to 16 September 2026, testing ran from 13 July to 24 September 2026, and results reach universities in early November. Dates for UCAT 2027 had not been published when this page was checked.

How Anannt prepares students for the UCAT

Diagnostic under real timing

A first timed set in each subtest shows where time is lost, which matters more in the UCAT than knowing the content.

Subtest by subtest

Verbal Reasoning reading drills, Decision Making logic and Venn practice, and Quantitative Reasoning with the on-screen calculator, one subtest at a time.

Situational Judgement

We discuss the professional values behind each scenario, so answers come from reasoning rather than guessing what sounds kind.

Mocks and review

Full timed mocks in the final weeks, followed by a review of errors and pacing for each subtest.

In Kothrud or online

Sessions run one-to-one at our Kothrud centre in Pune or online, timed around school and board exam preparation.

Fitting the UCAT around Indian school boards

CBSE and ICSE / ISC

The UCAT summer usually falls between Class 11 and Class 12. We plan short daily practice so board preparation and NEET work do not stall.

IB Diploma

We keep UCAT practice light during IA and Extended Essay deadlines and build up timed work in the summer break.

Cambridge A Level

We plan around AS results and the summer, which is when most students sit the UCAT.

Frequently asked questions

What are the four UCAT subtests?

Verbal Reasoning (44 questions in 22 minutes), Decision Making (35 questions in 37 minutes), Quantitative Reasoning (36 questions in 26 minutes) and Situational Judgement (69 questions in 26 minutes). Each subtest also has a short timed instruction screen. There is no Abstract Reasoning subtest.

How is the UCAT scored?

Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning are each scored from 300 to 900, for a total of 900 to 2700. Situational Judgement is reported separately as Band 1 to Band 4, with Band 1 the highest. There is no negative marking, so every question should be answered.

Can students in India take the UCAT?

Yes. The UCAT is delivered at Pearson VUE test centres in the UK and worldwide. Use the official Pearson VUE locator on the UCAT website to see which centres are available near Pune when booking opens.

When is the UCAT taken?

The UCAT is taken in the summer before the UCAS application. For UCAT 2026, testing ran from 13 July to 24 September 2026, with a booking deadline of 16 September 2026. Check the UCAT Consortium site for UCAT 2027 dates once they are published.

Is a calculator allowed in the UCAT?

Only the basic on-screen calculator, which is available in Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning. Students should practise with an on-screen calculator rather than a handheld one.

When should my child start UCAT preparation?

Most students start a few months before their test date, alongside Class 11 or the start of Class 12. Book a diagnostic and we will suggest a start date and weekly hours based on the result and your test date.
