TMUA preparation in Pune

TMUA classes in Pune for UK maths, computer science and economics

The TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission) is a UAT-UK admissions test used by universities such as Cambridge and Imperial for mathematics, computer science and economics courses. It has two 75-minute papers of 20 multiple-choice questions each, with no calculator. Anannt prepares Pune students one-to-one in the reasoning and proof skills the test rewards.

What is the TMUA?

The TMUA checks whether a student can use school mathematics flexibly. Paper 1, Applications of Mathematical Knowledge, sets familiar topics in unfamiliar problems. Paper 2, Mathematical Reasoning, adds logic, proof and the ability to spot a flawed argument.

There is no pass mark. Scores are based on the number of correct answers and wrong answers are not penalised, so the strategy is to answer every question and spend time where it earns marks.

For a CBSE, ICSE or IB student in Pune, most of the content is already familiar by Class 12. The gap is usually speed without a calculator and comfort with logic questions that board papers do not ask.

Registration, booking and test centres are handled by UAT-UK, and the fee depends on the test centre location. The October 2026 sitting ran from 12 to 16 October 2026. The second sitting is 4 to 8 January 2027, with booking open from 26 October 2026 (15:00 UK time) to 21 December 2026 (18:00 UK time).

Cambridge applicants who applied by the 15 October deadline had to take the October sitting; Cambridge lists January for mature applicants applying in January. Check the admissions page of every course on your list before booking a January test.

How Anannt prepares students for the TMUA

Diagnostic on both papers

A timed set from each paper shows whether marks are lost on content, on mental arithmetic or on reading the logic of a question.

Logic and proof for Paper 2

Implication, necessary and sufficient conditions, counterexamples and finding the error in a proof, taught from first principles.

No-calculator fluency

Short daily sets on algebra, surds, trigonometry and estimation so working stays fast and accurate by hand.

Timed papers and review

Full 75-minute papers with a review of which questions to attempt first and when to move on.

In Kothrud or online

Sessions run one-to-one at our Kothrud centre in Pune or online, around school and board exams.

Coming from CBSE, ICSE, IB or A Level

CBSE and ICSE / ISC

Class 11 and 12 mathematics covers much of the algebra and calculus. We add the logic and proof content and the no-calculator speed.

IB Mathematics AA

AA HL students usually know the content; we focus on timed multiple-choice technique and the Paper 2 reasoning style.

Cambridge A Level

We line TMUA practice up with Pure Mathematics topics and fill the logic content that A Level papers rarely test.

Frequently asked questions

Which universities use the TMUA?

Cambridge requires the TMUA for Computer Science, Economics and Mathematics. Imperial uses it for Computing (including joint Mathematics and Computer Science), Mathematics, and BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science. Other universities use it for some courses, so check the admissions page of each course on your list.

What is the format of the TMUA?

Two papers, each with 20 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes: Paper 1, Applications of Mathematical Knowledge, and Paper 2, Mathematical Reasoning. The total time is 2 hours 30 minutes.

Is a calculator allowed in the TMUA?

No. Calculators and dictionaries are not permitted, so preparation should include regular no-calculator practice.

Is there negative marking in the TMUA?

No. Scores are based on the number of correct answers and there is no pass or fail. Every question should be answered.

When can students from Pune take the TMUA?

There are two sittings in the 2026 to 2027 cycle: 12 to 16 October 2026 (now past) and 4 to 8 January 2027. Booking for January opens on 26 October 2026 and closes on 21 December 2026. Some courses, including Cambridge for most applicants, accept only the October sitting.

How long does TMUA preparation take?

Students with strong Class 12 or IB mathematics often need a few focused months, mainly on logic and timed practice. Book a diagnostic and we will suggest weekly hours based on the result and your sitting.
