What is AP Macroeconomics?
AP Macroeconomics is built on models: aggregate demand and supply, the money market, the loanable funds market and the foreign exchange market. Students must draw and shift these graphs correctly under time pressure.
Students taking Class 12 economics with CBSE or ISC will recognise some ideas, but AP expects precise graph labelling and chains of cause and effect.
It pairs naturally with AP Microeconomics for students heading to economics, business or finance degrees abroad.
How the May 2027 AP Macroeconomics exam is structured
| Section | Questions | Time | Share of score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Section I: Multiple choice | 60 questions | 70 minutes | 66% |
| Section II: Free response | 1 long and 2 short questions | 60 minutes, including a 10-minute reading period | 33% |
The long question is worth half of the free-response score and each short question a quarter. The exam is hybrid: answers to multiple choice go into Bluebook and free-response answers are handwritten in a paper booklet. It is scheduled for Friday 7 May 2027, afternoon session.

How Anannt prepares students for AP Macroeconomics
Diagnostic first
A short diagnostic on the AP Macroeconomics units shows which topics are secure and which need teaching from the start.
Graphs by hand
Because free-response answers are handwritten, students practise drawing fully labelled graphs quickly and correctly.
Policy chains
We drill the cause-and-effect chains (policy, interest rates, investment, output) that long questions are built on.
Indian and global examples
We use examples such as RBI policy decisions to make AP concepts concrete, while answering in the AP model's terms.
In Kothrud or online
Sessions run one-to-one at our Kothrud centre in Pune or online, timed around school hours and board exams.

Coming from CBSE, ICSE, IB or IGCSE
Most of our AP Macroeconomics students in Pune take AP alongside a different school programme, so the first job is to find out what they have already covered.
CBSE and ICSE / ISC
We map your Class 11 and 12 syllabus against the AP Macroeconomics units, so classes spend time only on the topics and question styles your board has not covered.
IB Diploma
We line AP study up with your IB internal assessment and exam calendar, so AP work fills gaps instead of competing with IB deadlines.
Cambridge IGCSE and A Level
We use what you know from Cambridge papers and spend the extra practice on the AP free-response style, where answers are marked against a published scoring guideline.
Homeschool and exam-only candidates
If your school does not offer AP, we plan the whole course with you and point you to the authorized test centre route for registration.
Frequently asked questions
Should my child take AP Macroeconomics or AP Microeconomics first?
Either order works. Many students take both in the same year, and in May 2027 they fall on different days (Microeconomics on 4 May, Macroeconomics on 7 May). Micro first can make some Macro graphs easier.
Does CBSE Class 12 economics cover AP Macroeconomics?
Several topics overlap, such as national income and money and banking, but AP requires more graph work and policy analysis. We teach the AP models directly and use the board knowledge as a base.
Are graphs drawn on screen in AP Macroeconomics?
No. The exam is hybrid: multiple choice is answered in Bluebook, but free-response answers, including graphs, are handwritten in a paper booklet.
Where can my child sit the AP Macroeconomics exam in Pune?
The College Board does not sell AP exams directly to students. Your child tests either through a school that offers AP or through an authorized AP test centre that is open to outside students. The College Board's India page lists Kalyani School in Pune as an authorized centre, with further centres in Mumbai. The AP Macroeconomics exam is on Friday 7 May 2027 (afternoon session). For May 2027, most centres opened registration on 18 September 2026 and accept registrations until mid-November 2026, and some run a later window with extra fees. Each centre sets its own fees, deadlines and refund rules, so confirm directly with the centre.
How is AP Macroeconomics scored?
Every AP exam is reported on a 1 to 5 scale. The College Board describes a 3 as qualified, a 4 as very well qualified and a 5 as extremely well qualified. Universities decide for themselves which scores they accept for credit, placement or admission, so check the policy of each university on your list. Scores for the May 2027 exams are due in July 2027.
