What is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is ranked to be among the most popular high-stakes English language proficiency test be it higher studies, work and migration. What is the format of IELTS?
The IELTS revised General Test comprises of following sections:
Listening: There are four sections with ten questions each.
Academic Reading: Three reading passages with a variety of questions using a number of task types.
General Training Reading: There are three sections. Section 1 may contain two or three short texts or several shorter texts. Section 2 comprises two texts. In Section 3, there is one long text.
Academic Writing: There are two Writing tasks and BOTH must be completed.
General Training Writing: There are two Writing tasks to complete.
Speaking: The Speaking test consists of an oral interview between the test takers’ and an examiner. Speaking tests are recorded.

How is Academic IELTS different from that of General training IELTS?
Academic – Institutions of Higher and Further Education, professional registration
If you are aspiring your higher studies abroad in an English-speaking university or seeking professional registration (for example, doctors) then this test is for you.
General Training – for, work or migration
If you are wishing to migrate to an English-speaking country (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK) , train or study at below degree level then this test is for you.

What is the eligibility criterion for IELTS?
A valid passport and 16+ years of age.

How is IELTS scored?
Each of the four components of the IELTS is scored on a scale of 1.0 to 9.0, in half-point increments. These scores are then averaged together for the overall band score.
